My Stairs

Below are my sketches of stairs and how I integrated them into my SketchUp model

Stair 1 connects individual platforms within the gallery space as well as connecting Ricky Swallow's studio to the gallery. The steps and the hand rail are made out of timber, while vertical supports are made out of an aluminium alloy. The wires running below the rail are stretched so that the whole stair remains rigid, so they will also have to be made out of an aluminium alloy.

Stair 2 connects Richard Goodwin's studio to the gallery space. I used smooth, curved shapes both in profile section and shape of the rails so that the geometry of the stair responds to sculpted shape of the studio, at the same time contrasting with rigid rectangular structure above the ground. The material for the stair has to be concrete to give it a heavy, somewhat industrial look. Aluminium finish is used to emphasise that feeling.
